This is
the (complete) Lobby card set (of eight cards)
for Hancock's second film The
Rebel.
Hancock's film career consisted of only five films; one as supporting
player, two as the
star,
and two as guest artist.

Card details:

|
Sizes: 11" x 14" (standard) - 8" x 10" (mini) - 14" x 17" (jumbo) |
Type: Printed in full colour (matte) on heavy card stock. |
History: One
of the oldest forms of movie poster art. Lobby cards were first introduced
in the early 1910s, as a display fixture in most theatre lobbies,
and did so for at least 75 years. Although still available for some
films, they are now typically used only in foreign markets. Lobby
cards remain very popular and collectible today. |

The
above set of Lobby cards were meant for distribution in the UK. There's
also a US Lobby card set for The Rebel, which was re-titled Call
Me Genius! for the benefit of the US market, and these can
be seen on The
Cuttings by clicking here.
The above UK set is
much nicer (IMHO), and in full colour, as can be seen above. The
US set are
of
a
different design and have been printed using a two colour process,
with all but one of the pictures, being completely
different from those above. So, if you're a collector, it'll probably
be a good idea to
get both versions - providing you can find and afford them of course. |
|
If you're
interested in purchasing / collecting the above Lobby cards, as a
complete set, then expect
(realistically),
to pay anything up to £300 for a mint set. It, as mentioned
elsewhere, will all rather depend on who's selling them, as to how
much you'll really
have to pay, of course. This particular set is
rare. You may not find a whole set all in one
go,
so you could find
yourself
having to collect them one by one, and maybe over a period of years.
It goes without
saying, unfortunately, bearing in mind their already mentioned rarity,
that to find them at all, in any condition, will prove to be quite
difficult. |
