This is
the (almost complete) Lobby card set from the US release of Hancock's
second film The
Rebel,
re-titled Call
Me Genius!, for the benefit of the US market. Hancock's film
career consisted of only five films; one as supporting player,
two as the star,
and two as guest artist.

History: One
of the oldest forms of movie poster art. Lobby cards were first introduced
in the early 1910s, as a display fixture in most theatre lobbies,
and did so for at least 75 years. Although still available for some
films, they are now typically used only in foreign markets. Lobby
cards remain very popular and collectible today. |

As
can be seen above, I only have seven of the eight US Lobby cards
for this film. I'm still on the look out for card #7.
If you have this one remaining card, in your collection,
then please let me know... As I'd be most grateful for a scanned copy,
so I could add it here, thus completing the set, and allowing others to enjoy.... |

The
above set of Lobby cards were meant for distribution in the US,
as I'm sure you're already aware.
The UK Lobby card set for The Rebel can be seen on The
Cuttings
by clicking here.
The UK set, IMHO, is much nicer and in full colour, rather
then the two colour process used on the US set above. They're
also of a completely different design.
So,
if you're
a collector, it'll probably be a good idea to get both versions - providing
you can find and afford them of course... |
|
If you're
interested in purchasing / collecting the above Lobby cards, as
a complete set, then expect (realistically),
to pay anything up to £250 for a mint set.
It will all rather depend on who's selling them, as to how much you'll
really have to pay, of course. You may not find a whole set, all
in one go, and find yourself
having to collect them one by one, and maybe over a period of years.
This might not be such a bad thing, as it will be a lot cheaper initially.
I've seen them sell singly for as little as £5.00 each. It
goes without saying, I hope, that these cards are rare, and to find
them
at all,
in
any condition, will prove to be quite difficult. |

There were two US Movie Posters for Call Me Genius! (in the same style as the above lobbies). These were; a 1Sheet - Style A and a Half Sheet - Style A, both of which can be seen by clicking the link (arrow) just below. Or if you're far too lazy to do that, then just click here. |
